The Essence of Fragile Dreams Success, although defining different perspectives, depicts a state of mind each human dreams of obtaining before the end of their time. If the task displays immoral actions, however, a different form of success requires acknowledgement just as equally as a task that demonstrates acceptance and heroic deeds. Therefore, every person contains characteristics that describe that of a hero, do they not? Each human has endured hardship and suffering. Each human mind composes itself of superior and appalling traits. Each human mind invents a hero as someone they could not measure up to, no matter how much they hope and dream. In the plays â€Å"Hamlet† by William Shakespeare, and â€Å"Death of a Salesman† by Arthur†¦show more content†¦He becomes so caught up in his life on the exterior, he fails to accomplish something numerous people in the world fail as well: self-knowledge. At the same time, Willy never attempts to do anything to assist in the situation, he buries himself in the past, causing a mental illness that includes delusions of happier times. He refuses to accept reality. Similarly to Hamlet, Arthur Millers viewpoint of a hero relates to Willy as well. Willy represents a common misfortune that several human beings face in the world, and before he has the ability to fix it, he turns the other cheek and commits suicide; for the final time, an easy way out. When comparing Hamlet and Willy Loman as tragic heroes based on their characteristics, they have several qualities in common. For instance, both fail in their endeavors in the pursuit of their unattainable dreams, and the ones they each love do more harm than good. In Hamlet, Ophelia and his mother, Gertrude both act as hindrances from his mission of revenge. In Death of a Salesman, Willys wife Linda reassures him with constant compliments such as youre the best looking man in the world, when appearance cannot determine success, nor the kind he h opes for. Therefore, both men in the plays fail like a common man. They cannot handle the struggle and guilt that they face, although in order to achieve what they want, they must search through buried treasure and come out with nothing but the gold. Essays on Peer Teaching Notes Written Summary--Organizational Communication for Survival(Fourth Edition)Chapter 12 Communication and chang Book Report/Review Chapter 12, â€Å"Communication and Change†, that is being reviewed here is about how change happens in organisations and how people attempt to resist change, the nature of communications and the aspect of innovation that happens in organisations. These three aspects that tie in together with the interlinked processes of communication and change are dealt with in the chapter. The author makes the point that people resist change for a variety of reasons. They range from insecurity about one’s position in the organisation to bad experiences in previous attempts at change. Further, people resist change as they are fearful that it might lead to chaos. According to the author, the main reason why people and organisations resist change is because they are afraid of the â€Å"unknown† and like to go with the status quo instead of making changes in their work place. The rest of the chapter is devoted to the networks of communication and innovation that are necessary for change to happen. The author describes the mechanisms of â€Å"opinion leaders† that perform the functions of moulding employee opinion and the â€Å"gatekeepers† who regulate the flow of information across the organisation (McCroskey, 2008). The author lists the six conditions that are necessary for change. These include the condition that the system must have slack resources; the new idea must be supported by formal and informal networks/ leaders and the people who are implementing the change must be involved in the change process. These conditions for change are necessary and also include the facts that the change must show positive results and there should be a gradual movement towards change instead of a â€Å"big bang† approach. The five keywords that the chapter 12 point of view are organisational change and its definition, how organisational change happens, what are the necessary conditions for organisational change, why people resist change and what are the attributes of innovation that make change happen along with the communication mechanisms for the same. These keywords describe the author’s contention about the necessity of change and the mechanics of change as they are applied to the organisations. The attributes of innovation that are described include the compatibility and observable characteristics of innovation processes. The chapter 12 concludes by stating that organisational change can be enjoyable, profitable and manageable. The key is to understand the process or steps by which the organisation goes through in the process of change. The view point that the chapter 12 presents is that change is inevitable and the only constant in the life of an organisation is change. The chapter 12 is all about how to deal with the processes of change in an orderly and gradual manner. In conclusion, I fully concur with the author of the text and the contents of chapter 12 as they relate to organisational change. This is a topic that has received wide attention in recent years because of the inevitability aspect of change that seems to be the norm. They may give an answer that is not necessarily accurate due to laziness or inconvenience. The online surveys are also limited as researchers do not receive detailed knowledge or reasoning of why people have put certain answers. Internet surveys can also lead to misunderstandings and it may be hard to follow up respondents, as you may not know who has answered the survey. Time Constraint: Other limitations that should be recognized is time. Due to the duration constraint placed upon the research process, limitations arose. Through more time the market research could have been done in a more detailed and thurrer manner using the most effective method. Resources: The resources available also limited us to get the most accurate results as possible; we were not able to get a list of all Macquarie students to ensure a more accurate reflection of the population was used. Also It is known that experience of the actual researches themselves can vary results. Inexperienced researches may not use the best survey method and may subconsciously jump to conclusions throughout the research. This could be overcome by using another method, one categorized under probability sampling such as simple random sampling would produce a more accurate reflection of the sample and there would be less room for a bias result. Respondents may also give conclusions that are not accurate. This can be overcome by assuring the survey is simple, easy and clear. It could be done in many languages to overcome limitations with students who do not speak fluent English. The issues with time had an impact on the richness of research. To follow respondents up with interviews or any further questions, the survey could include a space for the respondents email. This could also enable in depth interviews to create a deeper understanding of respondents answers. Lastly the fact that this research has been carried out by inexperienced first time researchers is a limitation.
